Transform Hunger into Hope in 2015

A new year is a time of happiness for many, but that’s not the case for Missourians facing hunger. You can help Transform Hunger into Hope for the 260,000 people served by Ozarks Food Harvest’s network by giving time, food or funds. And The Food Bank is making giving even easier this spring when it’s launching an all-new website, providing a more interactive and informative online experience for all users. Thank you for supporting your regional food bank!

Ozarks Food Harvest earns third consecutive four-star rating

Ozarks Food Harvest earned the highest rating of four out of four possible stars from Charity Navigator, the leading nonprofit corporation that evaluates charities in the United States. The regional food bank also received a four-star rating the last two years, indicating OFH outperforms most other U.S. charities, as only 12 percent of charities in the country have received at least three consecutive four-star evaluations.

Ozarks Natural Foods donates land to Full Circle Gardens

Ozarks Natural Foods, located east of Springfield, is donating the use of its high tunnel and 76 raised beds for production of fresh produce to benefit Ozarks Food Harvest and the regional food bank’s network of 200 charity partners. The Glean Team is kicking-off the 2015 growing season by preparing the beds for planting cold-weather crops like lettuce, spinach, kale, chard and cabbage. OFH established its Full Circle Garden program in 1999, primarily harvesting a single community garden — located next to its former warehouse. Today, The Food Bank partners with numerous farmers and growers to make an impact on the community’s food system — and on hunger and health. To volunteer with this program, contact Jolene Thompson at (417) 865-3411, ext. 114.

scouting for food

Help Scouts during 26th annual Scouting for Food

During the 26th annual Scouting for Food food drive this month, area Boy Scouts will go door-to-door to collect nonperishable food items for Ozarks Food Harvest. Scouts will also collect from shoppers at Walmart Supercenter locations in Springfield, Ozark and Joplin from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 21. Thanks to the Boy Scouts for your support of Ozarks Food Harvest!

great american milk drive

Fundraiser seeking sponsors to provide milk for those in need

Hungry families in the Ozarks are missing out on the essential nutrients supplied by milk, because milk is rarely donated to food banks — even though it is one of the most requested and nutrient-rich food items at Ozarks Food Harvest. The Food Bank is hosting a kick-off fundraiser for National Dairy Month on May 30 at Rutledge-Wilson Farm and Community Park, and is looking for local partners to sponsor milk for those in need. From $100 to $5,000, your company or group’s donation will make a difference, and there are benefits to accompany your generosity. For more information on becoming a local sponsor for the Great American Milk Drive, contact Madeline Brown at (417) 865-3411, ext. 124.

give ozarks

Become a matching sponsor for inaugural Give Ozarks

In the first week of May, the Community Foundation of the Ozarks is hosting Give Ozarks, a 24-hour online day of fundraising that will rally the community around local nonprofits. Ozarks Food Harvest will raise money for the Weekend Backpack Program, and is currently seeking sponsors to provide matching funds for donors. This event will rely on social media and crowdfunding, which means matching funds will encourage donations of all sizes. Please consider joining the first ever, community-wide Give Ozarks day on May 5. Contact Development Director Denise Gibson at to get involved.

Give blood and give it a lift

Make an even greater impact when you give blood to Community Blood Center of the Ozarks by joining LifePoints Lift. CBCO’s new program awards donors points, which can be donated to one of ten charity partners, like Ozarks Food Harvest. CBCO is also awarding $2,000 to the charity with the highest number of recruited donors who give blood by September. Help OFH become the top charity by informing the registrar at blood centers that you would like to participate in the program, then select OFH on the sign-in log. Learn more.

Musgrave Foundation gifts $120K to area agencies

The Musgrave Foundation generously granted $120,000 to 16 Ozarks Food Harvest member agencies. The funding will be utilized for local hunger-relief efforts. Because every $1 donated to Ozarks Food Harvest is worth $10 in food distribution and services, the Musgrave Foundation’s gift will be leveraged to $1.2 million! The Musgrave Foundation truly understands what it means to give back to the community

Invest an Acre

Invest an Acre for Ozarks Food Harvest

Through the Invest an Acre program, farmers can donate the proceeds of one or more acres of crops to help feed hungry families in their own communities. When donors give through the Invest an Acre program, 100 percent will go directly to Ozarks Food Harvest. For every $1 donated, Monsanto will give $1, doubling contributions to The Food Bank. Learn more about this opportunity.
