What’s new at the O’Reilly Center for Hunger Relief?

Transform Hunger into Hope in 2015

A new year is a time of happiness for many, but that’s not the case for Missourians facing hunger. You can help Transform Hunger into Hope for the 260,000 people served by Ozarks Food Harvest’s network by giving time, food or funds. And The Food Bank is making giving even easier this spring when it’s launching an all-new website, providing a more interactive and informative online experience for all users. Thank you for supporting your regional food bank!

Give blood and give it a lift

Make an even greater impact when you give blood to Community Blood Center of the Ozarks by joining LifePoints Lift. CBCO’s new program awards donors points, which can be donated to one of ten charity partners, like Ozarks Food Harvest. CBCO is also awarding $2,000 to the charity with the highest number of recruited donors who give blood. Help OFH become the top charity by informing the registrar at blood centers that you would like to participate in the program, then select OFH on the sign-in log. Double your points by joining OFH for a blood drive at CBCO on Jan. 29 by bringing a nonperishable food donation! Share this event. Learn more.

“Check out Hunger” aims to surpass goal

Sincere gratitude to the grocers, cashiers and donors who contributed during this holiday fundraiser to help “Check Out Hunger”.
The 16th annual campaign concluded Dec. 31 at these area grocers: Akin's, Bistro Market, Cash Saver, Country Mart, Dillons, Harter House, Hy-Vee, Murfin's Market, Pennington’s, Price Cutter, Price Cutter Plus, Ramey, Rhodes Family Price Chopper, Richards Supermarket, Smitty's, Summer Fresh, Town & Country and Woods Supermarket. With hungry neighbors in mind, and as totals are reported from grocers, OFH has hopes that Check Out Hunger will surpass the goal set before the community. Read the media release.

Hunger Study

Study reveals OFH serving 260,000+ individuals

The weak economy has increased challenges for thousands in southwest Missouri, and with higher-than-average inflation and the rising cost of food, the number of those struggling remains high. The largest, most comprehensive analysis of charitable food assistance in America reports a 69 percent increase in those served by Ozarks Food Harvest and its network over the past four years. Learn the demographics of those served by OFH in the Hunger in the Ozarks Executive Summary and see the snapshot of those in need—their circumstances, the challenges they face and the choices they are forced to make living on extremely limited household incomes. Or, view the complete report to access all the data.

Help provide much-needed milk to those in need

Hungry families in the Ozarks are missing out on the essential nutrients supplied by milk, because milk is rarely donated to food banks—even though it is one of the most requested and nutrient-rich food items at Ozarks Food Harvest. The Food Bank is looking for local partners to sponsor milk for your neighbors in need. From $100 to $5,000, your company or group’s donation will make a difference, and there are benefits to accompany your generosity. For more information on becoming a local sponsor for the Great American Milk Drive, contact Christy Claybaker at (417) 865-3411, ext. 120.

Invest an Acre

Invest an Acre for Ozarks Food Harvest

Through the Invest an Acre program, farmers can donate the proceeds of one or more acres of crops to help feed hungry families in their own communities. When donors give through the Invest an Acre program, 100 percent will go directly to Ozarks Food Harvest. For every $1 donated, Monsanto will give $1, doubling contributions to The Food Bank.
