1What is Ozarks Food Harvest?
It is the only food bank in Southwest Missouri, and provides food to a network of more than 340 agency partners such as shelters, soup kitchens, senior centers, pantries and day cares in 29 counties in the Ozarks. In addition to The Food Bank’s distribution of more than four million pounds each year, it has developed a number of innovative direct relief programs such as the Kids Cafe® after-school feeding program, the Food for ThoughtTM weekend backpack program, the Club F.U.N.™ nutritional education program and the new Mobile Food Pantry. Ozarks Food Harvest also received the inaugural Economic Impact Nonprofit of the Year Award in recognition of the $7.5 million infused into southwest Missouri’s regional economy.

2What’s the difference between a food bank and a food pantry?
A food bank is a warehouse that collects and distributes food to charities such as food pantries which, in turn, provide clients with food and supplies.

3Can the hungry get food directly from The Food Bank?
No. The food is collected, stored and repackaged at Ozarks Food Harvest’s warehouse. The food is then distributed to qualified 501(c)(3) charities that feed the area’s hungry. These organizations referred to as “agencies,” receive food from The Food Bank for distribution to their clients. For a list of emergency food assistance sites, call (417) 865-3411 or visit the Ozarks Food Harvest warehouse.

4How does The Food Bank get food?
Many local and regional producers, growers, distributors and retailers donate to Ozarks Food Harvest. National food donations also come to The Food Bank via America’s Second Harvest, The Nation’s Food Bank Network, and through federal government subsidies. A host of local groups in the community also hold food drives for Ozarks Food Harvest to collect food rich in protein, which donated foods tend to lack.

5How is the food distributed?
Food arrives at The Food Bank and is inspected, sorted, labeled and stored at the warehouse for repacking and distribution. Ozarks Food Harvest delivers directly to member agencies and prepares order for agencies to pick up.

Of every dollar donated to Ozarks Food Harvest, 95 cents goes directly to feeding hungry people in the Ozarks.

7How many people will I feed with my donation?
